How does a tankless water heater work?
Tankless water heaters work by heating water on demand. Since hot water is not stored, tankless heaters have no standby heat loss providing efficiency and money savings.
As water enters the unit it is heated by a heating element which is triggered by a flow activated switch. The heat exchanger can be operated by electricity or a gas fired burner using natural gas or propane. (Gas units generally have more heating capacity and larger whole-house units are typically gas fired.)
