Benefits of Re-Piping your Home
Re-piping your home not only increases its value, but it will give you better tasting and smelling water, better water pressure, prevent water damage and probably save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in damages if your pipes burst.
How to determine if your house needs re-piping
Aside from a burst pipe that is gushing water there are several other signs that your house may need to be re-piped.
Common signs of pipe deterioration that might require re-piping;
• Flakes of dark matter in your water
• Rust colored water
• Odd tasting water
• Odd smell coming from your tap
• Waiting longer for hot water
• Scalding hot water especially when somebody else is using water
• Leaking in your plumbing
• Slab leaks
Pipe Test
The best method for a homeowner to determine if there is a need for pipe repair or replacement is to do a flow test. It is very easy; turn on multiple faucets inside and outside of your home simultaneously. If you see a dramatic drop in water pressure you may have a problem. Try several different faucets with the same test. If you do detect a sudden drop in pressure call Ben Franklin Plumbing as soon as possible!
Pipes deteriorate over time. The quality of the materials used and the craftsmanship when the pipe was installed has much to do with how long they will last. Another major factor that will determine how long your homes pipes will last is water chemistry. Water chemistry can create corrosion and deterioration of your houses pipes. For most of the issues sited above fixing a leak or multiple leaks will not suffice as a long term solution, since there will typically be more leaking in other places until all of the pipes and joints are replaced.

CPVC Pipe Advantages
We use CPVC piping for both hot and cold water piping. CPVC has numerous advantages over copper or galvanized pipes (pex in lieu of galvanized) and is considered by most in the plumbing industry to be superior.
• It is completely leak proof.
• Inhibits the growth of bacteria- provides cleaner drinking water
• Lasts longer
• Resistant to chemicals, corrosion and abrasion
• More energy efficient than other piping- will keep your hot water hotter and longer than its metallic predecessors.
Benjamin Franklin is different from other plumbing contractors; we believe that an informed consumer is our best client. That is why we will always specify exactly what we will do to fix your plumbing issue and give you our guaranteed straight forward pricing – included with all Benjamin Franklin Re-piping contracts
• Use of CPVC Pipe for hot and cold water supplies
• All labor and materials
• We will install new main shutoff valves at the water service feed into your house and at the water heater cold water side
• We will also install new brass emergency ¼ turn angle stops with stainless steel braided burst proof supply lines
• All the pipes are run and strapped all the in the attic and dropped inside the walls.
• All piping in the attic will be insulated, unless otherwise specified. Sometimes exposed piping is required because of block walls or non-droppable walls due to excess fire blocking in the walls, (this is only done when absolutely necessary).
• Some drywall will have to be cut to access shower valves in the walls. When possible we use 9”x 6” access panels to cover the hole, when this is not possible we cut an access through the tile side of the shower to access the shower valve. In this case we have what they call a “Smitty Plate” to cover the hole. Some drywall may have to be cut in order to drop pipes if there is fire blocking in the walls. Patching drywall is not included, unless otherwise specified.
• All piping exposed to UV rays will be protected by sleeves.
• All fast closing solenoids valves (dishwasher, ice-maker, washing machine line) have hammer arrestors put on and all hose-bibs have vacuum breakers put on. This helps prevent hammering in the walls.
• All threaded fittings used by Ben Franklin Plumbing for re-piping are brass with threaded CPVC adaptors. They are more expensive then plastic threaded fittings, however plastic threads can be striped out easily and will also crack if there is any stress added to the fitting.
• A 20 year limited warranty on all pipes and fittings.
• A full 2 year parts and labor warrantee
• We will even clean up after ourselves when we are done.
